Schuler, Hall, Crabtree win Council seats
Republican Terry Hall was elected as a Switzerland County Councilman At Large.
Republican Terry Hall was elected as a Switzerland County Councilman At Large.

The Switzerland County Council is made up of seven members. Four of those members represent specific districts in the county; while the other three are elected as "At Large" members - meaning that they can come from any area of the county.

In Tuesday's election, those three "At Large" were up for election; and two of the three spots will turn over in January.

With three Democrats and three Republicans vying for the three spots, the top three vote-getters would win four-year terms.

Rachel Bladen Schuler, who has served the county in the past as the County Auditor, was the leading vote-getter when the ballots were counted on Tuesday, garnering 1,876 votes.

She will be joined by another "newcomer" in Republican Terry Hall, who isn't really new to the council. He had previously served as the County Councilman representing District 3. He gave up that post to run for County Sheriff two years ago; and now returns to the council as an "At Large" member.

On Tuesday, he received 1,686 votes.

Democrat incumbent Steve Crabtree was reelected to another term, finishing with 1,591 votes to claim the third seat.

Incumbent Democrat Darrell Hansel fell just short of reelection, finishing with 1,548 votes; while Republican Elizabeth "Itsy" Jones finished with 1,417 votes; and Republican Richard Lay finished with 1,203 votes.

Rachel Schuler won Cotton I, Cotton II, Jefferson I, Jefferson II, Jefferson III, Posey I, and York precincts; Terry Hall was the leading vote-getter in Craig II, Pleasant I, and Pleasant II precincts; and Richard Lay won the Posey II precinct.
