A Switzerland County boy is continuing rehabilitation as he recovers from injuries he suffered after being struck by a car last Friday.
According to investigators, Eric Dunning, an eighth grader at Switzerland County Middle School, was across from his home in Mount Sterling when he attempted to cross back over State Road 56.
Switzerland County Chief Deputy Richard Lock said that as he crossed the road, a vehicle driven by Shellie Fowler of Vevay, which was traveling south on highway 56, came around a blind corner in the roadway, and her vehicle struck Eric Dunning.
"He probably didn't see the vehicle because it was in a blind curve, and there were a couple of vehicles sitting there that would have blocked his view, and also would have kept the driver from seeing him," Richard Lock said. "She never saw him until it was too late, and he never saw her. It was just an unavoidable accident."
Richard Lock said that speed was not a factor, and that he has ruled it as an accident.
Eric Dunning was airlifted from the scene to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, where he was in intensive care for a time, but has now been moved into a regular room and is undergoing rehabilitation.
He may have need of some facial surgeries in the future.
