10/24/2013 3:00:00 PM Marketplace is now open to the public
Come out and support your local farmers and artisans.
The Switzerland County Farmers and Artisans Marketplace is now open.
The marketplace will be held at The Markland Center at 7110 Community Drive, off Innovation Drive in the Markland Business Park.
The marketplace will be open each Saturday through November 23rd, 2013.
It will reopen with a grand opening in the spring of 2014.
The marketplace was created by a group of community members, in collaboration with the Purdue Extension Service and Switzerland County Farm Bureau, to develop a sustainable, viable farmers market in Switzerland County.
The marketplace showcases seasonal produce, value-added food products, other agricultural items, and arts and crafts that are raised, grown or created by participating vendors from Switzerland County and adjacent counties.
Farmers markets provide valuable marketing opportunities and low barriers of entry for new and beginning farmers. The marketplace will allow smaller-scale farmers artisans to enjoy a local outlet for their production, and add another venue for the community to purchase locally grown produce and other agricultural items from local vendors.
Any local farmers, producers or artisans looking for new marketing opportunities are welcome to participate. Participation fees are $5 weekly or $75 annually. Anyone interested in being a part of this project should call (812) 599-7205 or (812) 594-2050; or request information via email at SwissCoFarmers@gmail.com.
