2017 has been a successful year for the Moorefield Celebrities 4-H Club.

The Moorefield Celebrities have been living up to their name and are actively involved in our community.

The club has had several meetings this year with many activities, games, demonstrations, and opportunities to get involved with the community; and at one of those events, leaders invited Switzerland County Sheriff's deputy Robert Morton to one of their meetings.

The meeting, which was held at the Moorefield Community Fire Department this spring, allowed Deputy Morton and his K-9 dog 'Kate' to demonstrate her K-9 skills for the club. Impressed with Kate's abilities, club members at the meeting decided that they wanted to make a contribution to her in some way.

Last Tuesday, August 1st, the club presented K-9 Kate and Deputy Robert Morton with a box full of new training equipment, donated by the club from their fundraising efforts. As soon as President Grant Hall and Vice President Luke James sat the box down for Kate, she was overjoyed with excitement. Inside the box was a tactical training harness, magnetic stash boxes used for her training, and more tennis balls than any dog could know what to do with.

Terry and Gayla Stephenson, owners of Vevay Shell gas station and members of the Historic Hoosier Hills organization, got the club involved with a fundraising opportunity to help cover the cost of the equipment; and several families in the community made contributions to purchase training equipment for Kate, including the Stephensons and Vevay Shell.

In a show of appreciation, club members participated in the Canaan Roadside Clean-Up Day. Casie Auxier, of the Indian-Kentuck Watershed, hosted this event at the Canaan Fire Department. Terry, Joe and Erin Stephenson, Moorefield Celebrity club members, and many others, walked the county roads and picked up trash.

The club would like to thank all of the members of the community who helped make this possible.
