To the Editor:
Concerning Mr. Cooney's "A Stones Throw" concerning argument for and against gun control. I agree with him about both sides using stats to make their point, however, his article is misleading about so called "assault rifles" used at Sandy Hook School shooting. The rifle in question is an AR-15, semi-automatic rifle, not an assault rifle (not an automatic rifle).
There is a difference between the two, an assault rifle means when you pull the trigger it fires rounds until you take your finger off the trigger. Semi-automatic means one pull, one shot. This seems to be a trick of journalists to sway you to their opinion.
Other than having nothing, I would not want an AR-15 semi-automatic in a firefight in war (and I was in a few years ago.) It is no different than any other semi-automatic rifle.
