Band uniforms

To the Editor:

The Switzerland County High School Marching Band is starting it fundraising for new band uniforms. Our current band uniforms were purchased in 1999. They are currently 15 years old. The old uniforms are dry clean only, and are of a heavier-weight material. The new uniforms will be machine-washable and made from a more breathable fabric.

A complete uniform for one student will cost $450. This includes: uniform, hat, plume, mascot patch, and shoes. Our goal is to purchase 100 uniforms.

Friendship State Bank will be accepting donations from individuals or organizations for the new band uniforms. Donations can also be made at the Switzerland County High School office, with any checks being made out to SCHS Band, and noted for 'Band Uniforms'.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated by the Switzerland County High School Band.

Be responsible

To the Editor:

There they were. Abandoned. No food. No water. In the hot sun. One was already dead. Another died before milk could be offered. Another died the following day.

They were abandoned not far from Switzerland County's Animal Shelter in East Enterprise.

They were about four weeks old - not old enough to require any assistance from the owner.

If humans choose to own animals, responsibilities include:

• Have the animal neutered/spayed so more unwanted animals are not born,

• Take the animal to the vet for regular check-ups and shots,

• Provide food and water,

• Provide shelter from the weather and marauding animals.

If a person chooses to get rid of the animals, take them to the Switzerland County Animal Shelter; 12468 McCreary's Ridge; East Enterprise - next to the recycling center.

The animal shelter is open:

• Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Thursday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Saturday: 8 a.m. to noon.

Switzerland County Council has a voucher neuter/spay program to stop more unwanted animals from being born and mistreated. Vouchers are available at the Courthouse in the planning and zoning office and pay half the cost.

Be a responsible person and not be a heartless coward.
