Derek Archer

Derek Alan Archer, age 31, of Moorefield, entered this life on August 22nd, 1985, in Madison, the loving son of Alan J. Archer and Michelle Lynn (Holder) Wind. He was raised in Moorefield, where he grew up on the family farm.

Derek was a 2004 graduate of the Switzerland County High School in Vevay. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in 2008 in landscape and horticulture design from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Derek was united in marriage to the love of his life, Trisha Rae Allen. This happy union was blessed with two children: James Hudson and Poppy Louise. Derek and Trisha shared nine loving years of marriage together until he lost his courageous battle with leukemia.

Derek was currently employed as a landscape designer for Bella Outdoors in Burlington, Kentucky, for the past two years. He was a former landscape designer for Brentwood, Inc., in Alexandria, Kentucky, for eight years.

Derek was raised in the Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Pleasant,. Derek will be remembered for his love of his adoring children, his family, riding his ATV ranger and raising giant pumpkins every year.

Derek will be deeply missed by his loving family and abundance of friends.

The past seven weeks, Derek put up a courageous fight with leukemia with his family right beside him cheering him on and praying for him. Derek's battle ended with his loving family by his side at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19th, 2017, at the Norton Women's and Children's Hospital in St. Matthews, Kentucky.

Derek will be deeply missed by his loving wife: Trisha Rae Archer of Moorefield; his son: James Hudson Archer of Moorefield; his daughter: Poppy Louise Archer of Moorefield; his father: Alan J. Archer and his companion: Carlyn Wilburn of Pleasant; his mother: Michelle Wind of Madison; his brother: Adam Archer and his wife: Carly of Moorefield; his nieces and nephews: Halle, Adalyn, Beckham and Jett; his paternal-grandparents: John D. and Mary Leo (Lewis) Archer of Moorefield; his maternal-grandparents: Carol Ann (Lee) Holder Williams and her husband: Milford of Bennington; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Greg and Traci Pavy of Vevay; his father-in-law: Rodney Allen of Ridgeland, South Carolina; his brother-in-law: Tyler Allen and his fiancée: Heather Thomas of Vevay; his maternal grandparents-in-law: James and Sharon Ray of Vevay; and his several aunts, uncles, cousins and abundance of friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal-grandfather: Earl Holder, who died on July 23rd, 1991; his paternal-great-grandfather: John Kendrick "Ken" Archer, who died on April 24th, 1982; his paternal-great-grandmother: Elberta Mae (Osborn) Archer, who died on June 6th, 1999; his maternal-great-grandparents: Robert and Nellie (Puckett) Holder; his maternal-great-grandparents: Charles and Thelma (King) Lee; his paternal-great-grandfather: Clyde A. Lewis, who died on January 2nd, 2001; and his paternal-great-grandmother: Leona (Fish) Lewis, who died on November 16th, 1995.

Friends were invited to pay their respects to the family on Monday, July 24th, 2017, at the Switzerland County High School, 1020 West Main Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, July 24th, by Pastor Chris Clemans at the Switzerland County High School. Private Graveside Services and Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Caledonia Cemetery, Moorefield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Education Fund for Derek's children, c/o Trisha Archer. Cards are available at the funeral home. Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay is assisting the family at this difficult time.

Robert Bowman

Robert Lee Bowman, 66, of Dillsboro, Indiana (formerly of Rising Sun), passed away at 4:36 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 at The Waters of Dillsboro.

Bobby was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 20th, 1950, the son of the late Mary Alice (Adams) Bowman and Russell Lee Bowman. He grew up in Rising Sun and was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1969.

Bobby was the husband of Charlene (Wolker) Bowman. Bob and Charlene were married in July of 1971, they were together 46 years.

Bobby retired from Seagram's Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where he worked as an electrician. He was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ.

Bobby is survived by his wife Charlene Bowman, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; by a daughter: Caroline Reeves and husband Bryan, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; by grandchildren: Bradley and Nathan Reeves; by a brother: David Bowman and wife Connie, of Rising Sun; and by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Mary Bowman; by his son Bobby Lee Bowman in 1979; and by his brother, Donald Bowman.

Private services will be held at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made to charity of donor's choice. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun is serving the family.

Jeremy Brokaw

Jeremy Clayton Brokaw, 44, of Rising Sun, (formerly of Green Hills, Ohio) passed away on Friday, July 21st, 2017 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Jeremy was born in Covington, Kentucky, on December 23rd, 1972, the son of Kathryn (Zimmer) and Carlton Brokaw, of Green Hills, Ohio. He was a graduate of Winton Woods High School, Class of 1992. Jeremy also attended the University of Cincinnati.

On October 4th, 1997, he married Angela (Cauble) Brokaw. This union was blessed with three sons: Nicholas, Zachary and Nathan Brokaw, all of Rising Sun.

Jeremy loved nature and being outside. This passion led him to be owner of Green Day Landscaping & Lawn Care, along with the Windy Hill Garden Center.

Jeremy also enjoyed teaching the game of soccer to kids. He was a former SAY soccer coach in Ohio County; and also coached indoor soccer in Cleves, Ohio.

In addition to his loving wife and sons, Jeremy is survived by his parents: Carlton and Kathryn Brokaw of Green Hills, Ohio; by his sister Melanie Hermes and husband Paul of Green Hills, Ohio; by his grandmother Bess Zimmer of Cincinnati, Ohio; by niece Michaela Hermes of Green Hills, Ohio; by father and mother-in-law Woodrow and Barbara Cauble of Fairfield, Ohio; by sister-in-law Christy Cauble and Dave Ali of Seattle, Washington; and also by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins, particularly Paul Zimmer.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 29th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call Saturday, July 29th, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Aberdeen, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made to the family to establish an education fund for the children. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Elmer Horton

Elmer E. Horton, 70, of Rising Sun, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 at The Waters of Rising Sun.

Elmer was born in Milan, Indiana on May 23rd, 1947, the son of Robert Horton of Rising Sun, IN and the late Melba (Gullion) Horton. Elmer was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1967.

On May 3rd, 1980 he married Nancy (Farrell) Horton who survives him.

He worked as a carpenter through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union for 38 years. Elmer was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife Nancy, Elmer is survived by three daughters: Sally Spead (Steve), of Bennington, Indiana; Carolyn Horton of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Amy Westerkamm (Raymond), of East Enterprise, Indiana; by a son: Robert "Bobby" Horton, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; by his father, Robert L. Horton, of Rising Sun; by step children: Dan Knippenberg (Susan), of Morrow, Ohio, Linda Schorer (Bill), of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brenda Adamson (Steve), of Rising Sun Billy Knippenberg (Crystal), of Laurel, Indiana, and Tommy Knippenberg (Lori), of Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

He is also survived by grandchildren: Jason, Tiffany, Steven, Nick, Mike, Jennifer, Kevin, Jake, Crystal, Courtnee, Erica, Joey, Eli, Hannah, Hailey, Heather, Holly, Hillary, Lacey, Ally, Jade, Raymond and Mallory; by great grandchildren: Hunter, Easton, Ares and Sebastian; by two sisters, Tillie Courtney (Carl), of Rising Sun; Roberta Rowlett (Steve), of Madison; by nephews, Ryan, Wayne, Kyle and Justin; by niece, Jessica; by in-laws, Roger Higham (Kathy), Jim Farrell, Jan Uhlmansiek, Sandy Bruce (Norman) and Pat LaVelle (Gary).

Elmer was preceded in death by his mother Melba Horton; by his daughter-in-law Mindy Knippenberg; and by step brothers in-law David Higham and Harley Uhlmansiek.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 22nd, at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Friends were invited to call on the family on Friday, July 21st, at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Ohio County Rescue. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Dolores Schmenk

Dolores M. Schmenk, 70, of Avilla, Indiana, passed away on Friday July 21st, 2017 at Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, while being cared for by hospice.

She was born on July 30th, 1946, to the late Minor and Jennie (Rothman) Brand. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla, Indiana, and served as the Thrivent Secretary. Dolores was a member of the American Legion Post #240 Auxiliary, where she was the chaplain. She worked at Electric Motors & Speciality in Garrett, Indiana, retiring in 2007.

On May 14th, 2005, she married James Schmenk, who survives. Also surviving are sons: Jordan (Carrie) Priest of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Christopher Priest of Bedford, Indiana; and Jeffery (Angela)  Priest of Vevay; a daughter: Amy Hartman, of Stroh, Indiana; and step daughters: Carla (Jeff) York of Lutz, Florida and Cara (Dave) Bowman, of Ft. Wayne, Indiaan.

Also surviving are brothers: Floyd (Marian) Brand of Eaton, Ohio; Robert (Marci) Brand of Rathdrum, Idaho; and Max (Rita) Brand of Swanson, Ohio; sister Marlene (Tom) Bettinger of Elk, Washington; 10 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard "Bill" Priest; second husband, George Diehm; and step daughter, Christine Elbert.

Funeral Service were held on Tuesday July 25th, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Albion Street, Avilla, Indiana; with visitation prior to the beginning of the service. Pastor Patrick Kuhlman officiated. Visitation was also held on Monday July 24th, 2017 at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn, Indiana.

Memorials may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Donna McCool

Donna Lee McCool, 76, of Rising Sun, passed away on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Donna was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 15th, 1940, the daughter of the late Christina (Carr) Warram and Donald Lee Lockwood. She graduated in 1958 from Aurora High School, where she was a cheerleader.

Donna last worked at Macy's in collections. She also had worked as a nurse's aide at St. Francis Hospital, a job she enjoyed very much. Donna was a member of the Lawrenceburg Eagles and was the first Madam President. She was also a member of the Aurora First Baptist Church. Donna enjoyed four wheeling and was involved with the 'IOK Gravel-Rama' at one time.

Donna is survived by a daughter, Deborah Sue Welz (Anthony), of Rising Sun; by two sons: John Smart (Maureen), of Aurora, Indiana and Doug Smart of Rising Sun; by grandchildren: Jenny, Sarah, Tiffany, Anthony, Gregory, Whitney, Sara and Missy; by great grandchildren: Zachary, Eleanor, Everett, Xavier and Reghan; by two sisters, Charlene Whisman (Leroy), of Aurora, Indiana and Cheryl Meister (Gordon), of Cleves, Ohio; by two brothers: Charles Lockwood (Peggy), of Aurora, Indiana and Robert Ascherman, of Aurora, Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 27th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 27th, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made to Ohio County Rescue or PAWS. Cards are available at funeral home.

Bonnie Mitchell

Bonnie L. Mitchell, 74, of Batesville, Indiana, passed away at 7:35 p.m. on Sunday, July 23rd, 2017 at Ripley Crossing in Milan, Indiana.

Bonnie was born in Ohio County on September 11th, 1942, the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Bradley. She attended grade school at Cass-Union and was a 1960 graduate of Rising Sun High School. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Hubbells in Sunman, Indiana.

Bonnie was the widow of John W. Mitchell who passed away in 2006. They were married on June 10th, 1978.

Bonnie was last employed at Pri-Pak in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Bonnie loved playing cards, listening to country music and enjoyed watching 'Days of Our Lives', her favorite soap.

Bonnie is survived by four sons: Mark Rodgers (Kathleen), of West Palm Beach, Florida; Tony Rodgers (Holly), of Manchester, Indiana; Kevin Rodgers (Sherrie), of Aurora, Indiana; and Mike Rodgers (Shari), of Manchester, Indiana; and by a daughter, Penny Sue King (Clyde), of Batesville, Indiana.

She is also survived by a sister, Lola Stein, of Celina, Ohio; by a brother, James Bradley, of Greensburg, Indiana; and by 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband John; by brothers Robert and Carl David; by sisters Dotty Hartman and Doris Baker; and by nephew Alan Baker.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 26th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. Burial was at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family. Cards are available at the funeral home.
