Barbara Byram

Barbara Kay Byram, 75, of Rising Sun, passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29th, 2018 at her residence.

Barbara was born in Patriot, on June 28th, 1942, the daughter of the late Mabel (Porter) and Raymond Bailey.

On June 30th, 1953 she married Harvey Lee Byram, who survives her.

She was a homemaker and also did housekeeping for other people. She also stripped tobacco for local farmers. Barbara loved to read and do puzzles. She enjoyed tending her garden and flowers and she always made sure the birds and cats were fed.

Along with her husband, Harvey, Barbara is also survived by daughters: Angela Drew (Roger) of Seymour, Indiana and Melissa Eaton (Darrell) of Rising Sun; by two sisters: Margarette Winters of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Ann Eskridge of Moores Hill, Indiana; by grandchildren: Alisha Fiscus, Sarah Keck, Justin Eaton, Christopher Eaton and Emily Eaton; and by great grandchildren: Lilly, Ava, Aubree, Aidan, Kayson and Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by a daughter, Lisa Marie Byram; by brothers: Harold, James, Howard and John Bailey; and by a sister, Erma Dick.

A memorial service was held on Monday, February 5th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Pastor Darwin Pressler officiating. Visitation was on Monday, prior to the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the family. Cards are available at the funeral home.





Eleanor Long

Eleanor Long, age 95 of Clifton, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, February 4th, 2018 at the Swiss Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

Born in Jersey City, she lived most of her life in Jersey City and Clifton. She was a Homemaker.

She was the beloved wife of the late Russell Long.

Eleanor will be dearly missed by her son, Frank Fewkes; sisters-in-law Shirley Philhower and Doris Long; and dear friends Chip, Angie and Kathy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, New Jersey, on Saturday, February 10th, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Cresthaven Memorial Park, Clifton. Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Friday, February 9th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Locally, Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay is assisting the family at this difficult time.

Marion Murtha

Marion Delores Murtha, 81, of Rising Sun, passed away at 10:24 a.m. on Sunday, February 4th, 2018 at University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Marion was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 9th, 1936, the daughter of the late Geraldine (Powell) and John Schaffer. She was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park, Long Island, New York. She also attended cosmetology school.

Marion moved to the Ohio County community in 1984. She was a cook at the Rising Sun Care Center for several years and was a caretaker for a few local families. Marion last worked as a toll booth attendant at the Greater Cincinnati Airport.

Marion is survived by three sons: Joe Paolillo, of Rising Sun, Thomas Murtha and fiancé Amanda Salisbury, of Carrollton, Kentucky, and Ed Murtha, of Rising Sun. Marion is also survived by a sister, Geraldine Schroeder, of Ridge, Long Island, New York. Marion was anticipating the arrival of her first grandchild, a boy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Thomas Murtha; by a brother John Schaffer; and by a sister Veronica Hill.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 10th, at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Visitation will be Friday, February 9th, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rising New Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the family or charity of choice. Cards are available at the funeral home.





Robert Curlin

Robert Gayle "Bobby" Curlin, age 80, of Ripley, Ohio, formerly of Vevay, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, February 4th, 2018, at the Ohio Valley Manor in Ripley, Ohio.

Bobby entered this life on May 22nd, 1937, in Switzerland County, the son of the late Ernest and Lydia R. (Washburn) Curlin. He was raised in Switzerland County, where he attended high school.

Bobby was united in marriage on October 19th, 1973, in Newport, Kentucky, to the late Fredia F. Shelton. Bobby and Fredia shared nearly 44 years of marriage together until Fredia passed away on July 17th, 2017.

Bobby was employed for Stone Belt Trucking in Shoals, Indiana. He was also employed as a bore mechanic machine operator for Ford Motor Company in Sharonville, Ohio for 13 years. He resided in Medora, Indiana, for 15 years; the Vevay community; and the Ripley, Ohio community.

Bobby was a member of the Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM, Sons of the American Legion Post #185 and attended the Fredonia Baptist Church in Vevay. Bobby enjoyed being a truck driver for 22 years and will be remembered for his love of gardening, fishing, hunting and the outdoors.

Bobby will be missed by his daughters: Alice Welti and her husband Don of Milan, Indiana and Lydia Burger and her husband Daniel Scott of Valparaiso, Florida; his sons: Alvin Robert Curlin and his wife Connie of New Richmond, Ohio and Adrian Gayle Curlin and his wife Robin of Hamilton, Ohio; his step-daughter, Jo Ann Blevins of Columbus, Indiana; his step-son, John Eric Klimczewki of Vevay; his eight grandchildren; his four step-grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; and his four step-great-grandchildren.

He will also be dearly missed by his brother, Paul Curlin and his wife Beverly of Vevay; his sister, Frances Houze and her husband: John of Aurora, Indiana; and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Lydia R. (Washburn) Curlin; his wife, Fredia F. (Shelton) Curlin, who died on July 17th, 2017; his step-daughter, Kim Foutch; his granddaughter, Brooke Curlin; his brothers: Blanton, Courtland, James, Charles, J.T., Russell, Dilver and Wilbur Curlin; and his sisters: Daisy Curlin, Laura Jean Kennedy, Ann Crow and Ernestine Lakes.

Graveside Service and Interment were conducted on Wednesday, February 7th, 2018, by Reverend Wayne Daugherty at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Friends and family were invited to call on the family on Wednesday, February 7th, prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. A Masonic service will conducted by Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122, F&AM on Wednesday, February 7th, at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m.

Burial was in the Fredonia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fredonia Baptist Church or Fredonia Cemetery. Cards are available at the funeral home. Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay are assisting the family at this difficult time.
