Do not miss the Yard Sale at the Concord Community Church this Friday and Saturday, June 9th-10th. Bigger and better than ever, in addition to clothes, shoes, purses, furniture including two recliners and a set of barstools, cabinets, tables, knick-knacks, kitchen ware, there are misc. construction materials, flooring, ceiling fan, ceramic back splash and for the deer hunters: a 15" tripod roof kit for a tree stand! No Thursday this year! The doors normally open around 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. The church is located at 196 Concord Road outside of Patriot and off of Highway 156 at Sand Run Road. Many items will be marked for clearance on the last day! There are items for sale both inside the building and under the shelter so plan to spend some time.

Anyone interested in going to our Red HOT Hatters Outing to Batar's in Seymour, Indiana is welcome to join us! This will be a day long excursion to an exquisite restaurant and bakery located on Highway US 50, east of I-65. We are planning on carpooling and leaving at approximately Vevay by 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14th, in order to be there before it opens at 11 a.m. No cost other than your own food order. We will meet at the Jeff-Craig Fire Department on Ferry Street across from the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church. Call Kay Cook (812) 594-2281 for details.

I attended the 124th Patriot Alumni Association dinner on May 27th as a guest of Carol Ann Armstrong. I barely got out of my car in the parking lot before I met Dawn Elston's sister-in-law. Once inside, I spoke to Janice Meadors, who is a distant relative of Leah Jones' friend Evalina Romans Lewis. Lura Smith was there with her daughter Lynn Nestler. Several faces were familiar in the crowd: Toy Smith, Lulu Belle and Donald Thomas, Violet Kelly and Kathryn Turner. Sitting with Carol Ann Armstrong and me were Donna Cook Johnson, Sue Ellegood Armstrong, Eddie and Pat Oatman, Glenda Brammier Wells, Ginger Brammier Siekman, Donna Evans Eiseman, Saundra Graves Peters and Randall Koons. I spoke with Donna Eiseman about my choice to leave out the details on some folks' illnesses: I don't always know and I don't wish to intrude on anyone's privacy. (Better to be safe than sorry.) Way, way in the back I spotted Gink and Mary Ruth Poling, sitting with Ruth Lohide and Richard and Leona Adams. Gink was a member of the Class of '51! It was the Class of '67 that was being recognized for their 50 Year Anniversary and among those folks that I know were Pam and Rocky Hutchinson, Tony Gregory and Patti Shannon Viers.

Congratulations to Wayne and Kathy Turner on their 45th Wedding Anniversary last Friday. I enjoyed my visit with them at the Concord Church but I'm afraid we still may have a few more problems to solve for the Town of Patriot. We certainly cussed and discussed quite a few. I don't think any two people know Patriot as well as they do.

Tony Christiani issued the alert and several of us at the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church were ready to celebrate our church's 140th anniversary on June 11th, as indicated recently in the Vevay Reveille. Until we did some of our own research. All of the documentation that I have fails to show the actual day that our church was originally dedicated but it does give the year 1875, which would make this the 142nd year, not 140th. I plan on sharing some of that information with the parishioners next week so we will all know the story.

Donations of household items, books, clothes and et cetera are also being accepted by the Red HOT Hatters for the County Wide Yard Sale, also to be held on Saturday, June 17th. For pick up, contact Kay Cook at (812) 594-2281. Please price your donations. All monies will be donated to the Antoinette "Toni" Kniola Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation.

My Memorial Day was a quiet one, but thanks to my new neighbor Robin Lawson, I spent it in good company: Robin, her mom Brenda and niece Mikayla. One common denominator that Robin and I share is Juanita Detmer, whose birthday would have been last Friday. Such a lovely lady.

Marilyn Cook seems to be doing well recovering from her surgery. Prayers are still needed for Bill Levell (Sharon's husband), Wayne Dawson (Sandy's husband) and Ron Moenter.

You may contact me several ways: by leaving a note of message inside the cat mailbox in front of 1995 Front Street in Patriot; or by calling my home at (812) 594-2281; or dropping me a note at P.O. Box #01, Patriot, Indiana, 47038. In addition, contact KAY E COOK on Facebook or online at PatriotNews1995@gmail.com. If you have anything for me to include in this article, please send it to me. Information can be received any day of the week but normally my deadline is Sunday at noon for that week's issue of the paper. Any news received later will appear in the following week's article. If you need something in on a particular date be sure and give it to me early. Thank you for sending me what you do every week - I couldn't do this without you!
