The Red HOT Hatters are sponsoring the movie "You've Got Mail" to be shown this Saturday, August 12th at Vevay's Historic Hoosier Theater at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3. We are even going to be featured in a short photo presentation before the show! Come on down! Buy some popcorn and enjoy the movie with these crazy local ladies! You will have fun!

The next scheduled Red HOT Hatters meeting which will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14th at the Crossroads Restaurant in Versailles. All are welcome. Anyone needing a ride for the trip to Versailles, please call Kay Cook at (812) 594-2281 by Sunday, August 13th. We will be taking reservations and collecting money for our September excursion to Indianapolis to see 'West Side Story'.

This will be the second year for the Red HOT Hatters to attend the "Beef N Boards Dinner Theater" and this time to see the musical production of West Side Story on Wednesday, September 13th for the 1 p.m. matinee. On Thursday, the Schmitt Family, including Paul, Sharon, Erin and Matt, hosted a picnic for the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church at their home in Vevay. Coordinating the evening was Tammy McKay and Joyce Johnson. All four parish council members: Richard Yanikoski, Gayle Rayles, Paul Schmitt and Diane South, attended with their families. A total of 42 parishioners enjoyed the awesome cookout and pitch-in. Father Chris Craig opened the evening with prayer and fantastic food and great conversation followed. I enjoyed sharing some time with 'fellow columnist' Jerry Brown who has been writing for the Vevay papers for nearly 20 years.

Congratulations to my neighbor Robin Lawson whose smiling face was in last week's Vevay newspaper as the Swiss Villa Employee of the Month! Good work! I know Patty Chase thinks the world of Robin and she's never wrong about anything!

Remember that the Reuse Store in Vevay - commonly referred to as the "Free Store" - will be moving to the recycle facility at 19 McCreary Ridge soon. The location in Vevay will close at noon on Saturday, August 19th, and re-open at the new location in East Enterprise on Wednesday, September 6th. The new hours will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-6 p.m.; and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon.

Prayers of healing are needed for Travis Griffith, Bill Levell, Wayne and Sandy Dawson, and June Lack.

In addition I would ask that you include prayers of comfort for the families of IMPD Deputy Chief James Waters and Southport PD Lieutenant Aaron Allan. Both young men were taken way too soon and left many dear family and friends behind. As a retired police officer, I was honored to volunteer to assist at the FOP Hall in Indianapolis with the meal and reception following the funeral of my friend James Waters last Wednesday. My job was to greet and assist any and all in attendance. Subsequently, I met - and hugged - Southport Chief of Police Vaughn who had just experienced the loss of his good friend and officer Aaron Allan. He said he could literally feel the love and support of people since the tragedy. I also broke bread with the Chief of Police of Bargersville (Indiana) Judd Green whom I know better as my friend 'Juddly'. He and I worked together 'back in the day' as shift sergeants for the Adam/Edward Sectors of the Indianapolis Police Department. But it was not until I approached the current Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief of Police Bryan Roach that I truly felt honored: even though I have been retired 12 years, he knew me! Wow! I told him how proud I am of him but likewise told him that I did not ever want to wear his shoes!

In the "Lessons Learned" category this week, I have to admit how humbled I was to help with the funeral detail for my friend James Waters. That world and those people seem to be much further than 125 miles and 12 years. Nonetheless, to me, they are family and Indy is home.

In the "Critter Corner", Very Special Agent Leroy Gibbs of my infamous Terrible Twin Tomcats broke curfew two nights this past week, and he will not explain his whereabouts! So Mom was out and about roaming the streets of Patriot at 2 a.m. the other night to no avail. He was home by 3:30 a.m. and of course was assuredly repentant of his actions. (Not!) Anyway, anyone in Patriot that sees a sleek black cat wearing either an orange or a bright green collar with bell, he should be mine!

You may contact me several ways: by leaving a note of message inside the cat mailbox in front of 1995 Front Street in Patriot; or by calling my home at (812) 594-2281; dropping me a note at P.O. Box #01, Patriot, Indiana, 47038. In addition, contact KAY E COOK on Facebook or online at PatriotNews1995@gmail.com. If you have anything for me to include in this article, please send it to me. Information can be received any day of the week but normally my deadline is Sunday at noon for that week's issue of the paper. Any news received later will appear in the following week's article. If you need something in on a particular date be sure and give it to me early. Thank you for sending me what you do every week - I couldn't do this without you!
