Enough! I'm ready for warm weather! My friends have all become germaphobes and are barricaded inside their homes for fear of catching 'something' from someone. Although I have been reasonably healthy so far this winter (Knock on wood!) I'm beginning to become paranoid that I, too, will fall victim. Give me a good old, hot summer day - please?!

I've met so many nice people through this column and not the least is my friend John N. Campbell from Cincinnati. Originally from the Patriot area, we also shared a mutual friend in Dorothy Burley. John began calling me a couple of years ago and our friendship has continued to grow. Last week we went to lunch at John's favorite restaurant Demetrios in Cincinnati. He introduced me to the owner Carl Vasiliou as well as the rest of the family who make this establishment a true family restaurant. The food was fantastic. Everyone there knew John and John knew nearly everyone. I guess that's not too hard to believe when you've been around for over 92 years on this good earth and about 30 on that side of Cincy. We ran some errands and I was still able to head home before the snow really hit.

New Year's Eve I spent at home. Alone. Sorta. Just me and 6, four-legged critters. No cabbage, no alcoholic beverages and no noise makers - except for the sudden bursts of gunfire around midnight from both sides of the river. The critters were in rare form and the Two Terrible Twin Tomcats alternated between killer cat fights and champion games of kitty ball. They are my entertainment, 24/7, whether I really want them to be or not. Occasionally, a cat gets too close to one of the dogs and someone's tail must be chased. Never a dull moment.

Tuesday was the first Patriot Town Board meeting of 2018, but without our third board member Wayne (Jr.) Turner, a great deal of the agenda was postponed until next month. Wayne along with his mother Kathy Turner have both been under the weather and Wayne was not able to attend.

Friday, I attended the memorial mass for my friend Judy Korn at the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Church. She was a very integral part of our church family and she will be sorely missed.

We have lost still another parishioner this past week - Jean Dettenwanger. Her brother Father Dennis Dettenwanger will be presiding over her funeral this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church. Our thoughts and prayers to her friends and family.

Also, condolences to new Patriot resident Chris Ray and his family on the recent passing of his father.

The January 18th meeting of the Red HOT Hatters is planned for Jewell's on Main in Warsaw, Kentucky at 11 a.m. It has been decided that beginning in 2018, all Red HOT Hatter monthly meetings will occur on the third Thursday of the month. We do not collect dues or even require our members to where red hats. Come and join in the fun! We do an optional $5-$10 gift exchange.

Prayers of healing for Judy's husband Fritz Korn, Teresa Winters, John Campbell, Jake Rader, Betty Hutchinson, Pam Hutchinson, Colton Schirmer, Erin Schmitt, Leona Ware, Travis Griffith, Wayne Dawson, Tony Christiani and Red HOT Hatters Carol Ann Armstrong, Joyce Johnson, Mary Christiani and June Lack. Special prayers for the two-year-old grandson of Connie McCarthy, Lucas Winter.

This is a recipe that was given to me by "Aunt Bea" Sharon Levell that has a lot of potential. I followed the directions the first time and then for the second batch began switching to a different flavor of cake mix and different baking ingredients; e.g., yellow cake mix with pumpkin pie chips, even cranberries. So get creative!

Chocolate Peanut Butter

Chip Cookies

1 Pkg. - Chocolate cake mix

3 - Eggs

1/3 Cup - Vegetable Oil

1 Pkg. - Peanut Butter Chips

Beat eggs, cake mix and oil together. Stir in chips. Roll dough into 1" balls and place on lightly greased baking sheet or one lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
