Honors continue to roll in for Austin Clark

The basketball season is now over, but Switzerland County senior Austin Clark continues to garner local and state accolades for his outstanding career.

This past week he was informed that he has earned a spot in the prestigious 'Top 60 Workout', which has been held for the past 27 years and is sponsored by Hoosier Basketball Magazine.

The workout spotlights and honors the top 60 senior high school boys basketball players in the state, and gives those seniors the opportunity to play in front of college coaches; and also gives them the opportunity to be evaluated for a spot on the Indiana All Star team that plays the All Stars from Kentucky each summer.

The workout will be held on Sunday, April 6th, at Marian University in Indianapolis. The 60 seniors will be divided into two groups of 30 players, with one session being held from 1-3 p.m.; and the second being held from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public.

The complete list of the other honorees in the 'Top 60' has not yet been announced.

The honor of being included in the 'Top 60' in the state comes on the heels of being honored as one of the 'Top 100' seniors in Indiana earlier this month.

The top 100 seniors are selected by Garry Donna, publisher of Hoosier Basketball Magazine, as is compiled by observing high school games all over the state during the season; as well as discussion with numerous coaches, sportswriters, sportscasters, and college recruiters.

Along with Austin Clark, other area players who were included in the 'Top 100' were: Macy Holdsworth of Greensburg, whose father, Scott Holdsworth, used to coach here at Switzerland County; and Landon Perry of Madison.

The Ohio River Valley Conference has also released its final statistical leaders for this past season; and again Austin Clark dominates it.

He led the conference in scoring with an average of 22.9 points per game; and he also led the conference in rebounding with an average of 9.6 per game.

Austin Clark was third in the conference in assists with 51; was third in field goal percentage with an average of .600; and was ninth in freethrow percentage at .730.

His teammates also had outstanding seasons and were recognized by the ORVC.

Senior Chase Ritch led the ORVC in the number of three-pointers made with 44; and he was 10th in the conference in scoring with an average of 10.9 points per game. He was also seventh in the league in assists with 36.

Senior T.J. White was sixth in the conference in rebounding with an average of 5.8 per game; and he was 10th in field goal percentage at .510.

Junior Ben Curran led the conference in assists with 58, and he was 10th in field goal percentage at .510; Riley Phagan was tied for fourth in the league with 23 three-pointers made; and Tyler Gabbard was ninth in the conference in the number of three-pointers made with 18.

Austin Clark wrapped up his high school career second overall on the All Time scoring list for the Switzerland County boys basketball program.

He ended his Pacer playing days with 1,193 points, which is second all time. Head coach B.J. McAlister and athletic director David Todd are finishing the compilation of school records and standings; and Austin Clark will assuredly be in the top 10 in several other categories.

He will also continue to play at the next level, as he has signed a National Letter of Intent to accept a basketball scholarship from Huntington University near Fort Wayne.

The Foresters, under coach Ty Platt, earned a spot in the NAIA National Tournament this season.
