The Rising Sun Lady Shiners opened the 2017-18 basketball season with a 52 to 30 loss to Franklin County on Friday, Nov. 3rd in Brookville.

Coach Abby Friend's Class A Shiners managed to stay close to the Class 4A Wildkats as they trailed 13 to 8 after one quarter.

The hosts scored 11 straight and held Rising Sun to three points to take a 26 to 11 lead into halftime.

The lead blossomed to 40 to 20 after three quarters as Rising Sun made 23 turnovers and shot just 19 percent from the field (8-for-43) including 2-for-14 from 3-point range.

Senior Lucy Carrigan led all scorers with 24 points (6-for-17) including 10-for-11 from the free throw line.

Danyka Groover, Sydney Pitts and freshman Maddi Wilson scored two points each. Saige Groover added three rebounds and a steal while Emma Levi added an assist.

Pitts had a strong game on the boards with nine. Classmate Kinsey Price had two boards. Rising Sun out-rebounded Franklin County 29 to 26.

The Wildkats were led by Kameron McCool with 10 points (including 6-for-6 at the line) and 11 rebounds. Kendall McCool added 10 points with Megan Getz and Layne Steele scoring eight piece. Taylor McCreary scored six.

Franklin County shot 34 percent from the field (16-for-42) and were 15-for-22 at the line to Rising Sun's 12-for-17.

Foul trouble hampered the Shiners as Carrigan picked up her second foul shortly before halftime. She and Sydney Bostic picked up their third fouls less than a minute and a half into the third quarter.

Rising Sun travels to South Decatur on Friday.

Saturday, November 11th game with Lawrenceburg has been postponed until Wednesday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m.

Rising Sun does not have a reserve team this season.
